TEST TODAY
Chip: Good morning and welcome to Jefferson High School for this broadcast of "Test Today." "Test Today" is brought to you on the Test Television Network by Pitonderoga, makers of the new T2 titanium pencil. I'm Chip Underhiller and I'm joined today by Kent Frommler in the booth and by Missy Granda in the classroom.
Kent: It's great to be here, Chip. Today we'll be watching Ted Minkam as he attempts a big geometry test. Ted has had a rough go of it in school this year. You might remember, we saw him last month when he completely messed up on his science test.
Chip: That's right, Kent, but this promises to be a better outing for Ted. All week, we've heard rumors that he may have been studying. Missy, what can you see?
Missy: Well, Chip, Ted looks tired today. I heard him telling Phil Putnam that he was up late studying for this test. That could be big for Ted. We know from past tests that he is not really into studying. If he has studied, it just might make a difference. Wait a minute, it looks like the teacher is passing out the tests. Back to you, Chip.
Chip: Thanks, Missy. Well, Kent, I have a feeling that this is going to be a tough test. Look at the size of this thing. It must be at least ten pages long.
Missy: Chip, it's a twelve-page test. The teacher has also passed out scratch paper.
Kent: My goodness. This will be interesting.
Missy: Ted had a little trouble with the name, date, and period section, but he's moving - at last - into the multiple choice questions. It looks like he's writing something out on the scratch paper. That could be a good sign. He must be comparing two possible answers. No. Wait. No, it looks like he just drew a funny picture on his scratch paper. It looks like a funny picture of the teacher. Yep, that's what it is.
Chip: That's an interesting move so early in the test. What do you make of it, Kent?
Kent: Well, Chip, it could be that he's already in trouble in this test. It could be that the multiple-choice part of the test is just killing him. Or it could be that he had a funny picture in his head and he just had to let it out.
Chip: Well, we've seen that before.
Missy: Ted appears to be in trouble now. I can hear him moaning. It looks like he went with "c" on all of the multiple-choice questions and now he has entered the problem solving part of the test. His scratch paper has been folded into a strange shape.
Chip: Interesting. Perhaps he's using the paper to represent some two-dimensional shape from the problem.
Kent: I don't think so, Chip. It looks like a paper airplane to me. And not a very good one.
Missy: You're right Kent. Good call. He just launched the airplane into Heather Trombley's hair.
Chip: Well, things do not look good for Ted at this point. Has he written anything at all for the problem, Missy?
Missy: Well, yes, but it appears to be a weak attempt to claim some partial credit. It looks like he's done his best, but this test has just been too much for Ted today. He's still writing some stuff, but it's mostly nonsense. He's writing feverishly now. I think he's losing it. Oh my!
Kent: Wow, that's too bad. If I could, I'd pull him out of there before he hurts himself. It's just not worth it. He still has a lot of school left.
Missy: Wait a minute. There he goes with his test. He's turning it in now. That's it. It's over. It's over. It's all over.
Kent: Thank goodness.
Chip: Well it's been a disappointing day for Ted, but he'll be back. As a matter of fact, we'll be with Ted next week when he attempts a history unit test. But that's it for today, folks. Thanks for joining us. For Kent Frommler and Missy Granda, this is Chip Underhiller signing off for "Test Today" on the Test Television Network.
Kent: See you next week!
